Built in Unity, I started out as lead programmer on this project before leaving the company for a career break, later returning to help get it over the finish line. Initially I worked closely with design to prototype and develop the physics-based telepathy mechanic — the core tool players use to manipulate the environment — as well as trialling various combat and puzzle mechanics.
Upon returning I focused on optimising scripts, rendering, and physics. The game’s minimal loading screens created shader warming issues, compounded by our use of Vulkan. To solve this we built a shader pre-warmer that ran against dynamic objects during boot, and worked to cut shader variants down to the absolute minimum.
