Jurassic World Aftermath is a suspenseful survival adventure. Crash-landing on Isla Nublar after the fall of Jurassic World, you find yourself trapped in a research facility when your mission to recover valuable information goes disastrously wrong. To survive, you’ll need to explore and solve puzzles while distracting and evading the three ferocious Velociraptors that stalk your every move.
My first Quest 2 title. Built in Unity, I came onto this project to lead the Raptor team. Much like the alien in Alien Isolation, the raptor was the core of the game — and collaborating across Animation, Design, Audio, and Art to realise their vision within such tight technical constraints was an immense challenge. Being VR, the raptor had to handle anything the player could do, while moving freely through the environment using root motion. This was no small feat for a non-humanoid character capable of moving so quickly — balancing the practicality of the movement system without compromising the creative vision was one of the hardest problems I’ve tackled.
Equally challenging was the raptor’s senses. Since players could peek around obstacles from any angle and hide in any nook, the raptor needed to handle any situation the player could create — a deceptively complex AI problem.
The release was split into two parts due to COVID, but the raptor had to be fully functional from day one. All in all, I’m incredibly proud of what we managed to deliver as a team.
